The Market and Marketing of Verizon Business Research Proposal
The Market and Marketing of Verizon Business - Research Proposal Example On the other hand, Verizon wireless had a net gain of $1.8 billion retail subscribers and customer growth from the first and second quarter. In order to have a better understanding of where Verizon is perceived in the market, there will be two areas which will be covered for this purpose of the research. The research will be focusing on the non-Verizon customer, for a greater depth in understanding the reasons why Verizon is not attracting them. This report will mainly focus on two areas which Verizon should improve: The main reason why Verizon's customer base has been decreasing and well as taking their Verizon because it needs to focus most of its attention to the wireless affiliate because that's what is giving Verizon a competitive advantage. Verizon will have to create something new for the phone company and to do so they might have to increase the expenses a little to be more technologically advanced. However, their net income would increase and they would get more customers. As the Mintel report depicts that Verizon and Sprint both show higher-than-average shares of those who earn above $100k, Verizon and Alltel (not shown) are the only Top Five brands to have an above-average share of white customers and below-average share of all minority subscribers. Therefore in the light of all these developments Verizon's market strategy should be to include: A focusà on reasons why it is not capturing the subscription base of other ethnic groups rather than mainly higher income and white respondentsThey should also focus of what will attract other race or ethnicity groups to become part of their customer base. A review of the advertising practices and strategies in this regard. The relevant price and discount strategies. Currently, Verizon has an average share of those customers who earn above $100 k per annumà The purpose of this study is to find out the critical reason why Verizon is losing its market share. This study has been conducted for the purpose of understanding the market strategies of other telecom providers and to investigate reasons for diminishing customer base and strategies to attract new customers. There also needs to be an inquiry into how the present customer base can be successfully retained, in a more profitable context. This section will mainly focus on the consumer trends of all ethnicities with an income of over 100k per annum.

Construction - Receiving a Brief Essay Example for Free
Construction Receiving a Brief Essay As the brief was given I started to research many existing Sunday supplements. Research was needed to give a better understanding as to what techniques and codes are used to separate them from other magazines. The conventions that I have used for my supplement are: large pictures, main and sub headings, intensity of lighting on images, medium shots of actress, large quotes, columned interview and a certain representation of the interviewee. After researching quite some depth into the supplements I noticed these codes that were used, all the magazines had used these codes and techniques. I then constructed a hand drawn draft of the layout of my magazine. The layouts of all three types of supplements (broadsheet, tabloid, daily) were varied so I chose the most convenient layout of the Sunday times as this had not too much text and 2-3 images on a double page spread article. I decided that my supplement would consist of a front cover, two adverts; double page spread article and a contents page. All of the pages have been constructed using many layers and all the following effects plus those added below: Tool Type, Eraser, Free Transform, Magic Wand, Copy, Crop, Paste, Airbrush, three different dodge tools. The front cover needed a name; the existing names used were like, Sunday, review, culture etc. I chose a name, which I thought, would describe my supplement and its contents so ADVANCE because my supplement tells the facts and reviews before anyone else. I chose to colour the background red as it makes the Oscar stand out. The scanned image of the Oscar was placed to link with the article inside. Tools used were mainly tool type (headings), layer effect (emboss, for title outer glow for Oscar), gradient (background colour). The second page of my supplement is a television advert. All the supplements that I researched had entertainment ads such as TVs, hi-fis and DVDs, so I decided to create my own. Two original images have been used on TV ad.1. The television 2. The eyes . These were taken with a digital camera supplied by the college. The advert is supposed to resemble one of the different adverts that are used in present magazines. Tools mainly used rubber stamp (TV image), eraser (fitting image), layer effect (outer bevel for title). My contents page consists of 2 original images 1. The Birmingham based building rotunda 2. The doctor or drunk image. The text on the left side of the page has been used to give an impression that there are all these articles in the supplement, also the two images at the bottom and the quotes have been used to give a preview of whats inside. The contents page was inspired by The Sunday Times Magazine. Tools, text colour (various colours), free transform (alters image size), outer bevel (sub heading). The double page spread article consists of 5 original images. 1. Actress supposedly holding Oscar. 2. Supposed front cover of a mainstream magazine. 3,45. Actress with family in an American home. The mise en scene of the family image was scanned in, but the other two backgrounds were constructed. The technical decision was where my images were going to be placed; I decided to integrate them with the text. Tools used, filters (lens flare for flashes effect), emboss (quotes), variations (a lter clothes colour). The back advert consists of three original images. 1. The car sign 2. Three views of the car. 3. The supposed box carrying the car. Tools used, pillow emboss (car images and text), blur (edges of box), brightness/contrast (image quality), inner bevel (text) and magic wand (edit certain areas of image), outer glow (gold Lexus). My final product was all constructed on Adobe Photoshop 5.5, for my article I was about to use Microsoft Publisher but it seemed to restrict what and how I wanted my final article to look like. Evaluation. I believe that I achieved what the brief had told us. The final took a lot of effort developing this piece of coursework. I think my product does resemble a Sunday supplement as I have used the codes and techniques to make it look like a Sunday supplement. I imagine that if a person would see the layout of my work they would instantly recognize it as a Sunday Supplement. Also the context is quite formal as are most supplements, the language I have used is moderate and mild. An Oscar was used to give glamorous yet firm look to the supplement also subheadings and intros are few but spaced. The contents page is relatively spaced out; this has been done to give a comfortable feel to the reader. The small issues in the column are about various things from serious youth issues to entertainment such as puzzles and crosswords. I am quite pleased with the adverts that I created these were made after I narrowed down my research to three different newspapers, then I could see overall what simil ar types of ads they had. The layout of my article was very difficult, so I chose to create the article into to several paragraphs leaving no spaces in between. This was deeply influenced by The Sunday Times Magazine interview layouts. The pictures in my article are not very realistic due to the small experience I have with Photoshop, I could greatly improve on them, and also I could further improve on researching more. Potential buyers would see my newspaper and supplement as one of the established broadsheets, so it would sell to readers of a 20+ group. I used large images to give the reader a stress-free feel, as they wouldnt get frightened by the amount of text. My final product was shown to a real audience. The reactions were satisfying as most of them were impressed and agreed that it gave a supplement look and feel, also that they would purchase it, if it were on the shelves. Overall I am pleased with my final product and hope that I have achieved what was intended.

Casablanca :: essays research papers
Casablanca was a very interesting film. The first time that I watched it, I really had no idea what was going on. I found it a little hard to follow. But, after the second time around, a good portion of the movie became very clear to me. The setting takes place in Casablanca, Morocco and in Paris, France. At first the movie takes place in December 1941 at Rick Blaine's saloon in Casablanca. Rick has to deal with some illegal visa papers that he was given, and he hides them in the piano. Rick's former lover Ilsa comes with her husband Victor Laslo to the saloon. She is friends with the piano player Sam, and tells him to play the song As Time Goes By; Rick and Ilsa's "song." Rick comes in and yells at Sam to stop, and then he sees Ilsa. Then next scenes Rick is having a flashback to all the good times he had with Ilsa when they were in Paris, France. Rick and Ilsa are in love and plan to leave on a train to get married. Ilsa is really married to Victor, but she believes that he's dead. She finds out that he's alive and in a concentration camp right before she plans to leave with Rick. She doesn't go with Rick on the train and leaves him heartbroken. Then back in Casablanca Rick discovers that he's still in love with Ilsa. Rick tells his friend Louie, the police chief, about the illegal papers and plans to have him set up Victor to go to jail for having the papers so Ilsa and Rick can go to America. Rick decides that he can't go to America with Ilsa, because she'll regret it. Victor and Ilsa end up going to America on an airplane together. The most memorable scene of the film for me was when Ilsa comes back into Rick's life. She begs Sam to play As Time Goes By. He won't so she keeps saying, "Play it Sam..." When Sam does play the song Rick storms in and says, "I thought I told you to never play that again!" Then he looks up and sees Ilsa. They make eye contact and they remember all of their old feelings for each other. This scene is very emotional and you can tell exactly what they're both feeling. I think a filmmaker wanted to make this film to show what war can do to two people.

Air Conditioner Controller :: essays research papers
1. INTRODUCTION Today, thanks to the advancement in the field of electronics, most of the manually controlled systems are getting replaced with sophisticated electronic circuits with intelligent controlls. These circuits are capable of monitoring, analyzing and controlling the systems. In earlier days these electronic circuits were fabricated around discrete hardware components such as transistors, logic ICs etc that made the system bulky and costly. Also since the component count was more the failure rate was also more. But now due to the introduction of single chip microcontrollers, the hardware part was drastically reduced; so also the cost and size of the hardware has come down to a large extent. As a result almost all of the control circuits are designed over single chip microcontrollers. 2.à à à à à SCOPE OF THE PROJECT The primary objective of this project is to make a simple circuitry for Air conditioner controller. Greco-Persian Navy War
During the Greco-Persian war (500 B. C. ââ¬â 449 B. C), many battles took place in this bloody war. Battles were fought on land and at sea. Sea battles played a major role during the war. The Athenian Fleet was among the most sophisticated and powerful navies to date that time. The Persian Armada seemed unbeatable with its vast number of ships and soldiers. The Athenian Navy had a higher kill ratio than the massive Persian Fleet. The Persians and the Athenians both used that same type of ship for sea battles, the trireme. A trireme was warship used in ancient civilizations.They were wooden ships powered by mostly men with oars. The strucural integrity of these ships was remarkable. The average trireme with a length of 120 ft. could hold about 40 tons. These ships weighed about 2,200 pounds. The hull was composed of small yet dense planks held together by interlinking edges. Due to their inovative design these vessels were able to reach top speed reaching almost 10 mph. In the fro nt of the vessel was the primary armament of the ship, the bronze battering ram. The secondary armament included spearmen and bowmen. The two main tactics of naval warfare during ancient times were boarding or ramming.When boarding, the oarsmen on one boat would board the enemy boat and fight to the death. When raming, you would manuever around enemy and strike the enemy ships from the side in order to sink their ships. The Athenian generals were highly effective with their tactics. The Battle of Salamis Like the Battle of Thermopylae, the Greeks were largely outnumbered in the Battle of Salamis. They faced an overwhelmingly large number of Persian ships. The Athenian Fleet Force included according to Herodotus, 366 triremes. The Persian Armada however, included 1,207 triremes. The Athenians were facing a seemingly unstopable force.However, in middle 480 B. C, a storm arose and destroyed one third of Dariusââ¬â¢s fleet. The Greeks had two commnaders, Themistocles of Athens and Eu rybiades of Sparta. The commanders of the Persian Fleet were Xerxes of Persia, Artemisia of Caria, and Xerxesââ¬â¢s brother Ariabignes. Artemisia was the only commander in Xerxesââ¬â¢s force to be female. Xerxesââ¬â¢s brother Ariabignes perished in the Battle of Salamis. The Persianââ¬â¢s primary tactic for this battle was to overwhelm the Athenian Navy with their massive armada. Xerxes wanted to end the conquest of Greece in a single military campaign.The Persians were better sailors; they had experienced men and ships that had fought before. The Greeks had unexperienced sailors and new ships. Statisticaly speaking, in an open sea battle, the overwhelming number of Persian ships and experienced sailors should unquestionably defeat the Athenian Navy. The Greeks without many choices had to defend the Island of Salamis. If the Greeks wanted any chance in winning, they would have to bring the Persians someplace where the number of ships would no longer be a variable. Themis tocles sailed his navy to the narrow straits of Salamis in order to constrict Xerxesââ¬â¢s fleet.Once they came through the narrow path, the Spartan Navy began attacking along with the Athenians. The battle was brutal and long. Persians sent wave after wave of triremes to devastate the Greeks. Their efforts were futile for the Greeks had a better tactical position, which was to defend the coast. Persian admiral Ariabignes had died early in the battle. This caused much perplexity among the Persian ships. Confused and without their admiral, their strategy began to fall apart. Artemisia, realizing defeat was imminent, attacked a Persian trireme to trick the Greeks into thinking she was an ally so she could flee.She succesfuly escaped with the conscience of leaving her men to die in battle. The Persians quickly retreated to avoid further losses. Xerxes was furius; upset at the astonishingly incomprehensible loss of his massive fleet. After the battle he said ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢my men hav e become women, and my women menââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢. This Greek victory played a major role in the winning of the war. The battle of Salamis also gave prestige to Athenians and their allies. They now had the most powerful navy in the World. Their navyââ¬â¢s kill/death ratio had rissen by 480%; they were precise, efficient, and above all lethal.

Crime and Television essays
Crime and Television essays Crime and Television, Could There Be A Connection? Watching the news a few days ago, I came across some startling information. According to new statistics, the crime rate and inmate population in the United States has gone up 20% from the year 2001 to 2002. These statistics include the rise in juvenile crime as well. It is being said that this increasing problem is being caused by the dramatic increase in violent television programs. It is proven that violent acts being witnessed or viewed day after day may numb ones sense of right and wrong, which can result in a lapse in judgment causing violent behavior. This is particularly true amongst young viewers. With the rise of violent television programming and the rate at which young people are watching television, we may soon have a tremendous problem. Most prisons now a day are holding more and more young offenders. The statistics are getting scary and so are the people under the age of 25 who are committing them. In most prisons containing only males, 66% of the inmates are there due to violent crimes and 30% of them are under 22 years old. Such crimes include homicide, rape, abuse, molestation, etc. These are serious allegations that most of the criminals have willingly admitted to or have been proven to commit the crime without a doubt. It is strange to think of a human being actually doing some of these horrible things. What can possibly go on in a person's head to trigger such violent behavior? Violent crime prisoner usually have some sort of "battered past", as the Criminal Psychiatric Division calls it. A "battered past" is defined by having previous criminal history, abuse, neglect, or other such circumstances while growing up. Such issues are said to cause permanent psychological damage sometimes, more often than not, causing violent or damaging behavior in their future. This behavior may not be visible right away. It may tak...

Essay on The Right Stuff by Thomas Wolfe â⬠an Anthology of Heroism
Essay on The Right Stuff by Thomas Wolfe ââ¬â an Anthology of Heroism Essay on The Right Stuff by Thomas Wolfe ââ¬â an Anthology of Heroism Essay on The Right Stuff by Thomas Wolfe ââ¬â an Anthology of HeroismThe Right Stuff by Thomas Wolfe is a lively and sincere account of lives of post war American pilots and first American astronauts. The story is touching and witty. It is written in unforgettable Wolfeââ¬â¢s manner which makes it original and amusing.à Even people who are not interested in aviation and space flight will enjoy it because of the original manner of narration and deep and touching narration. In contrasts to his previous works, Wolfe does not turn to mocking and irony in this book. This happens most probably because he really appreciates the deeds of his characters and treats them like heroes. His attitude reflects the perception of most of the Americans of the time described and it passes the spirit of that time.The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe is a book which describes US postwar high-speed aircraft tests. The project Mercury and seven astronauts selected by NASA for this project become the main focus of the narration. The book tells a story of the space race and space exploration. The story contains political reflections about the political motives of space exploration and the Mercury project. The author speaks about complex issues which predetermined history of the country. The book contains interviews with pilots and astronauts and their wives. As Wolfe noted himself, the main reason for writing the book was his desire to find out the reasons which made pilots to agree to take part in the project of space flights. Personal stories and feelings make the main part of the book. These stories make readers being fascinated because they are told on the background of the breakthrough in the space e flights. In reality, the book is not about pilots or astronauts, but mostly about overcoming obstacles and true and sincere service for the sake of the country and its citizens. The book speaks about pilots and aviation, but it is necessary to remember that for that time those people embodied hopes and expectations of the entire country.The book is a realistic and detailed account of lives of such legendary men as John Glennm, à Alan Shepard, à Chuck Yeager, Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper,à à Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, and Deke Slayton. The author creates a wonderful account of heroism, patriotism and true masculinity. The name of the book gives an idea about the driving motifs of the main characters. ââ¬Å"The right stuffâ⬠ââ¬â is a combination of right reactions, necessary actions, responsibility and true judgments which help to take right decisions and accomplish the job well.The author describes events from the bright side, despite the fact that events take place during the Cold War and in reality the development of different space flight projects had important political meaning and was the part of the Cold War. As Wolfe wrote describing peopleââ¬â¢s events and moods after the USSR sent to space the first satellite Sputnik 1:à à The panic reached far beyond the relatively sane concern for tactical weaponry, however. Sputnik 1 took on a magical dimension. . . . It seemed to dredge up primordial superstitions about the influence of heavenly bodiesâ⬠(Wolfe 13). Itââ¬â¢s not a secret that the war of technologies and the war of weapons made an essential part of the Cold War between the USSR and the USA blocks.à At this point first orbital satellite possessed a great meaning and caused a loud reaction in the society.à Space technology during that time became the reflection of the technological development in general and a lot of people in both countries made their conclusions about the war potency of the country according to its technical innovations and space industry became one of the most important markers. That is the reason USSRââ¬â¢s temporary superiority in the space industry became such a big disappointment for so many people. ââ¬Å"Nothing less than control of the heavens was at stake . It was Armageddon, the final and decisive battle of the forces of good and evil. . . . The New York Times, in an editorial, said the United States was now in a Race for survival. The panic became more apocalyptic. Nothing short of doom awaited the loser, now that the battle had begun (Wolfe 13). Satellite Sputnik 1 became the symbol of superiority of the USSR and the symbol of threat to peace in the world. The USA had to react and launched several programs aiming to gain superiority back. People who became the pioneers of space flights became the symbol of hope for the entire nation and The Right Stuff tells the story of these people.The author helps his readers to feel that epoch and become the participants of these historical events. `Despite the fact it is not possible to get into those peopleââ¬â¢s thought described in the book, Wolfeââ¬â¢s attempt to do so is definitely valuable and interesting. Attention to the smallest details helps Wolfe to express his ideas better. The narration is a combination of documentary data and account of personal feelings and emotions of people who created the history.The book is an account of the development of space industry which describes it starting from the first flight tests and follows to the US space programs.à The book was published in 1979, not the best time for the American history. In this time Nixon had to leave the White House because of Watergate scandal, army retuned from Vietnam after unsuccessful war campaign, and the general mood in the society expressed loss of hope and depression.à At this very time Wolfe decided to create an account of outstanding events of the American history and to show extraordinary peopleââ¬â¢s lives. à In his book Wolfe centered on values which had not price and did not disappear with the flow of time. He decided to find out what makes people à commit extraordinary deeds, overcome doubts and fear and make their job what others would call a heroic deed. Wolfe b ecame fascinated by the characters of pilots and astronauts and as he himself wrote his book became a story of why men were willingwilling?delighted!to take on such odds in this, an era literary people had long since characterized as the age of the anti-hero (Wolfe 7). According to the research, during the 1970s one of four Navy pilots died in the accident.à Giving this statistics Wolfe wonders what could make people want to choose such a dangerous profession.Despite the fact that Wolfe chose an omniscient perspective for his narration, he manages to create personal connection between his characters and readers and passes true feelings and emotions to his readers. He gives an idea not only about the life and work of test pilots, but also describes their surrounding and their close people.à The stories of astronautsââ¬â¢ wives are very touching and interesting. The readers get an idea what it means to be a wife or a relative of the person who has made risks and danger his pr ofession. à Before speaking about the first astronauts, the author tells a story of another heroic personality ââ¬â Chuck Yeager, a test pilot who was flying in the 1940s when Americans tried to pass the sound barrier. Chuck Yeager was one of the fastest pilots and showed a perfect example of bravery and eagerness to overcome obstacles. The story of Yeager becomes an introduction to the narration about other seven strong and courageous men who had determined the future of the flight and space industry.à Wolfe describes Alan Shepardââ¬â¢s suborbital flights, describes Gus Grissomââ¬â¢s fears. He depicts John Glenn as an icon of bravery and heroism.Tom Wolfe definitely possesses his unique writing style which distinguishes him from other authors. His writings are always recognizable and unique. In this book he uses a lot of artistic details, including repetition, artistic details, and many others. Punctuation in the book also serves as an artistic mean, as well. It help s the author to pass emotions and feelings to the readers and creates a unique narration style.The Right Stuff is original, sincere and very touching book describing American manned space program.à Personal style of narration, plenty of small details and deep work with the thoughts and feelings of the characters create a wonderful combination of fiction and non-fiction prose which touches readersââ¬â¢ hearts deeply. à The book is a very good example which illustrates how individual destinies are interconnected with the destiny of the country and how they influence each other. Test pilots have become those figures who shaped out the future not only of the space technologies, but also the entire country. Their destinies changed dramatically, as well. They have become national heroes and idols for a lot of people and come to the history of space flights.
